The Challenge
The client operated across 18 regional member practices, each reliant on disparate enterprise resource and practice management software. This fragmentation led to severe inefficiencies in cross-border engagements, where staff allocation, engagement budgeting, and billing reconciliation required manual data consolidation across non-integrated systems. Risk management and regulatory compliance posed an acute bottleneck. Mandatory multi-jurisdiction independence verification and conflict-of-interest checks took up to two weeks per major corporate engagement, stalling project commencement and increasing administrative costs. Furthermore, institutional knowledge and project artifacts were trapped in regional silos. Senior leadership lacked unified visibility into network-wide capacity, client profitability, and delivery milestones, which impaired strategic decision-making and cross-selling across service lines.
Our Approach
CYVERRA designed and executed a multi-phase digital transformation programme centred on a domain-driven, composable cloud architecture on Microsoft Azure. We established a centralised event broker using Apache Kafka to synchronise practice data, client records, and resource availability across all member entities in near-real time. We deployed a secure, microservices-backed engagement delivery engine featuring an automated global conflict-checking pipeline. This pipeline leverages graph-based data querying to evaluate corporate hierarchies, equity holdings, and historical advisory engagements against proposed client mandates within minutes. To drive adoption without disrupting ongoing client work, our team implemented a strangler-fig migration pattern, iteratively replacing legacy practice management components with unified GraphQL APIs, a modern responsive interface, and a Snowflake-powered data mesh for real-time operational analytics.
The Outcome
The modernised digital architecture reduced engagement onboarding cycle times by 54% and transformed multi-jurisdictional conflict checks from a multi-day manual process into an automated workflow completed in under two hours. Network-wide resource allocation improved significantly, enabling seamless international team deployment. Practice leaders now access real-time margin tracking and predictive capacity forecasting across all 18 member firms. The operational consolidation yielded a 28% reduction in administrative overhead while elevating billable consultant utilisation across core advisory practices.
