Grid Operations & Asset Modernisation for a Power Utility
CYVERRA VERIDION GROUP modernised core grid operational workflows and field service systems into an integrated, event-driven platform for a regional electricity distributor. The engagement accelerated distributed energy resource onboarding and reduced mean time to repair across critical infrastructure.

The Challenge
The utility operated with siloed supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) interfaces, disparate work order systems, and manual dispatch mechanisms. Field technicians frequently relied on paper schematics and disconnected handheld tools that lacked real-time integration with control room telemetry, creating delays during emergency fault isolation. Simultaneously, the rapid expansion of distributed energy resources (DERs)—such as grid-scale solar and industrial storage—overburdened existing operational interfaces. Data from new substations required manual mapping, and synchronisation between central engineering models and active field assets suffered from multi-day reconciliation cycles, introducing operational risk and escalating compliance overhead. Leadership required a comprehensive digital transformation to consolidate operational telemetry, automate work dispatch workflows, and establish an extensible architecture capable of absorbing future grid modernisation initiatives without disrupting ongoing distribution services.
Our Approach
CYVERRA VERIDION GROUP deployed an enterprise-grade digital integration platform built on event-driven cloud architecture and modern field service tooling. We designed a decoupled middleware layer utilising streaming data pipelines to bridge legacy SCADA telemetry systems with modern operational analytics and dispatch engines. Our delivery team implemented a secure, offline-capable mobile platform for field engineering teams, incorporating automated work-order routing, GIS network tracing, and dynamic hazard notifications. Central dispatchers were equipped with a unified console that unified asset status, network topological views, and crew availability into a single operational interface. To de-risk the transition, CYVERRA executed an incremental migration across four geographic operating zones. We established automated schema validation pipelines to harmonise telemetry protocols across legacy relay equipment and modern smart grid sensors, ensuring continuous data fidelity and operational continuity throughout rollout.
The Outcome
The operational platform successfully modernised grid management across the entire distribution network, providing real-time visibility from substation to distribution point. Control room operators can now triage network anomalies and dispatch field crews automatically based on proximity, qualification, and live asset status. Field productivity improved substantially through offline-first digital workflows, eliminating manual paper processing and redundant voice-based status updates. The unified telemetry pipeline has enabled proactive asset maintenance schedules, significantly reducing secondary fault occurrences and lowering overall maintenance overhead.
