Digital BSS Modernisation and API Layer for a Tier-1 Telco
CYVERRA engineered and deployed a cloud-native digital integration layer to decouple legacy Business Support Systems (BSS) from customer-facing channels. The transformation unified fragmented product catalogues, accelerated service activation, and reduced partner onboarding overhead.

The Challenge
The operator managed multiple siloed legacy BSS installations accumulated through successive regional acquisitions. Core customer, billing, and ordering functions were bound to monolithic mainframe backends, forcing digital front-ends to rely on complex, brittle point-to-point integrations. This structural coupling created severe operational friction. Launching a new commercial tariff or converged fixed-mobile proposition required up to six months of custom backend scripting across multiple vendor platforms. In parallel, high peak volumes on consumer digital channels frequently saturated legacy database connectors, causing dropped orders and customer attrition.
Our Approach
CYVERRA architected and delivered a TM Forum Open API-compliant microservices layer deployed across a resilient hybrid Kubernetes foundation. This modern abstraction layer encapsulated legacy BSS complexity behind standard REST and GraphQL interfaces, shielding digital channels from mainframe dependencies. Our engineering team implemented an event-driven architecture using Apache Kafka to handle asynchronous order orchestration, real-time balance queries, and inventory reservation. Comprehensive automated contract testing and canary deployment pipelines were introduced to enable continuous delivery across distributed engineering streams without service degradation.
The Outcome
The transition enabled commercial teams to design, test, and release converged product bundles in days rather than months, substantially improving market responsiveness. Channel API response times fell by over 70%, directly improving self-service conversion rates and customer satisfaction scores. By retiring bespoke integration middleware in favour of standardised open interfaces, the client reduced ongoing IT maintenance overhead while shortening enterprise B2B partner onboarding cycles from several weeks to under four days.
