Automated Reverse Logistics & Returns Processing Engine
CYVERRA designed and deployed an end-to-end automated reverse logistics and returns orchestration platform integrated with warehouse management and customer service systems. The solution eliminated manual triage, accelerated customer refund cycles, and improved inventory recovery rates across three fulfillment hubs.

The Challenge
Rapid cross-border eCommerce growth caused return volumes to surge, overwhelming customer support and warehouse intake teams. Manual classification, inspection logging, and refund approvals created processing bottlenecks that extended return resolution cycles to an average of 12 business days during peak trading periods. Disconnected systems across the eCommerce storefront, third-party logistics (3PL) warehouse management systems (WMS), and enterprise accounting led to persistent data latency. Inventory reconciliation discrepancies frequently caused undamaged stock to linger in quarantine or high-demand SKUs to miss time-sensitive resale windows.
Our Approach
CYVERRA engineered an event-driven business automation architecture utilising cloud microservices to bridge customer-facing return portals, carrier tracking webhooks, and regional 3PL warehouse operations. Automated decision logic was deployed to evaluate return reasons, customer tiering, and parcel scan events, dynamically routing items to the optimal refurbishment, restocking, or secondary liquidation stream. Bidirectional integration pipelines were established across the ERP, payment gateways, and inventory management layer. By embedding real-time barcode validation at warehouse receipt and automated ledger reconciliation, the platform enabled instant store credit issuance and automated payment reversals upon verified item inspection without requiring manual back-office approval.
The Outcome
The automated reverse logistics platform reduced end-to-end return processing cycles from 12 days to under 48 hours, enabling 84% of standard returns to execute without human intervention. Customer support tickets regarding return and refund status declined by 46%, reducing frontline operational overhead during peak volume surges. Real-time inventory status synchronisation allowed recovered, grade-A stock to re-enter available-to-promise (ATP) inventory channels within 24 hours of warehouse arrival. This acceleration captured higher salvage values, minimised seasonal write-downs, and restored working capital liquidity across the group's regional distribution network.
